Pd (aka Pure Data) is a real-time graphical programming environment for audio, video, and graphical processing.
This class will provide a series of hands-on workshops guiding each participant in the design and implementation of their own creative musical environment using the open-source programming environment, Pure Data (Pd).
The class will demonstrate various techniques which allow the extraction and augmentation of traditional musical instruments, including pitch-tracking and motion capture techniques using the web cam on your laptop/computer and using domestic gaming console controller's, such as the Nintendo Wii Remote.
The class will also present advanced compositional techniques, such as the extraction, manipulation and application of musical structures (such as a musical scale) and utilising these structures as a method of performance control in order to incite sophisticated textural and spatial music processes.
Pure Data is free to download at http://puredata.org
Each Participant will be required to bring their own laptop computer (versions of Pd available for Windows, OSX and Linux).
Supported by the Creative Industries Innovation Fund.
